Founded in 1962, the Albanian American Islamic Center of New York & New Jersey is a non-profit religious organization dedicated to religious, educational, and social service — building a strong, vibrant community for generations.
Our story · 1972
A home built to keep the faith alive
In November 1972, after years of worshiping in borrowed rooms across the city, the Albanian Muslims of New York and New Jersey opened their first mosque — a converted mansion on Albemarle Road in Flatbush. The 80-year-old Grand Mufti Salih Myftiu cut the ribbon, and a community that had crossed an ocean finally had a house of its own.
